ABOUT

Emily Utley is an experienced interior designer and founder of LUMEN Interior Design, Berkshire

Emily Utley

My passion for interiors was sparked from an early age growing up with a mother who completed multiple development and design projects over the years. This helped me to develop a well trained eye for space, flow and design.

My Approach

I believe a beautiful room comes from understanding how you want to use and live in that space.  My role is to interpret your style and bring it into that room so that it feels considered, cohesive, beautiful and inviting.

Every home has its own character depending upon its history, location and architecture.  I like to consider this when creating a scheme in order for it to reflect its character.

Each project is unique, my ultimate goal is to create a home or space that feels effortlessly stylish and balanced, combining the old with the new, holding on to treasures and incorporating them into a modern style, using layers of colour and tone and balancing aesthetics with the practical .

I aspire to create a home that is beautiful, deeply considered and uniquely personal to my client.

LUMEN Interior Design

LUMEN

LUMEN is the way my late father spoke of our family unit. Each letter represents one of us, the 'E' being for Emily. Just as a lumen measures the brightness of light, he often said that the closer we were as a family, the brighter the light would shine.

Now, I strive to bring light to every project incorporating the love and energy inherent in my clients' families.

Experience

25 Year's Experience

With over 25 years’ experience in home renovation and styling, Emily has a huge passion for interior design.

Her love of beautiful things and their provenance sparked a degree in Archaeology and Roman and Greek Art followed by a post graduate diploma at Christies where she later worked in the Antiquities department.

She attended Kensington and Chelsea College where she studied Interior Design and attended courses at the Decor Cafe in furniture painting and upcycling, colour charting, cushion and blind making.

After that, she managed a portfolio of over 200 high profile clients at WA Ellis in Knightsbridge, overseeing their properties, refurbishing  them for rental or sale and ensuring their demands and expectations were met.

She partnered with a property developer consulting on space, layouts and flow and advised on furnishings and styling.

Whilst bringing up her boys she worked with private clients and on family developments and decided to set up Lumen Interior Design in 2022.
